Ben'Jarvius Shumaker Flips to Colorado, Then Back to Ole Miss Within Nine Hours
The four-star defensive lineman from Choctaw County, Miss., reversed course twice in a single day, ultimately reaffirming his commitment to the Rebels.
Choctaw County (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Ben'Jarvius Shumaker committed to Colorado on Tuesday morning, then flipped back to Ole Miss approximately nine hours later in one of the more turbulent single-day recruiting reversals of the 2027 cycle.
The sequence unfolded rapidly. On Monday, Shumaker had announced that his recruitment was shut down and that he was firmly committed to the Rebels. His Tuesday morning flip to Colorado came as a surprise given that declaration, leaving Ole Miss navigating an unexpected defection from what had been considered a locked-in pledge.
A Whirlwind 24 Hours in Oxford
Ole Miss had already been managing outside pressure on Shumaker's commitment before Tuesday's events, fending off interest from programs including LSU and Texas to retain the blue-chip prospect. Losing him to Colorado, even briefly, represented a notable blow to the Rebels' 2027 class standing.
Colorado had been building momentum in the 2027 recruiting cycle heading into the week, with its class growing into one of the top groups in the Big 12 over the span of roughly a month. Shumaker's commitment, however short-lived, briefly added a high-profile name to that group.
By Tuesday afternoon, Shumaker reversed course again, announcing he was returning to Ole Miss. The back-and-forth left the Rebels' recruiting room unsettled, with the fluctuation drawing attention across the college football recruiting landscape.
Shumaker is considered one of Ole Miss's top targets in the 2027 class. His recommitment to the Rebels closes — at least for now — a chaotic 24-hour stretch that tested the program's hold on one of its most prized prospects.
