Tennessee Loses Two Four-Star Defensive Linemen to Decommitments in Same News Cycle

Tennessee football's 2027 recruiting class absorbed a significant double blow on Wednesday when two four-star defensive linemen decommitted from the Volunteers within the same news cycle, dealing a notable setback to a class that had been considered one of the stronger early builds in the SEC.

One of the departing prospects is Kadin Fife, a four-star defensive lineman from Centre, Alabama, who plays at Cherokee County High School. Fife had been committed to Tennessee since November 21 but announced he is reopening his recruitment ahead of his senior season.

Fife Ranked Among Top Defensive Linemen in 2027 Class

According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Fife is the No. 363 overall prospect and the No. 37 defensive lineman in the 2027 cycle. His decommitment removes a ranked interior prospect from a position group Tennessee had invested in early in the cycle.

A second four-star defensive lineman, also from Alabama, decommitted from Tennessee on the same date, compounding the roster-building challenge for the Volunteers in a single news cycle.

Tennessee had put together what was widely regarded as a strong 2027 class prior to the withdrawals, making the back-to-back decommitments a notable reversal for a program that had been active in securing early commitments along the defensive line.

Both prospects are now considered open in their recruitments as they head into their respective senior seasons, leaving Tennessee to address the losses at one of the most critical positions on the field.
