Utah football picked up momentum on multiple fronts this week, securing commitments from a pair of in-state prospects while also finalizing a new apparel partnership and tracking proposed NCAA rule changes that could benefit the program's recruiting approach.

The headline addition came late Wednesday night when Kaysville Davis athlete Jaxton Itaaehau announced his pledge to the Utes, giving Utah its biggest commitment of the 2027 class to date. A four-star prospect described as a two-way playmaker, Itaaehau is considered part of one of the most talented groups of in-state talent in the last decade in the class of 2027. Utah also identified him as a legacy target.

Itaaehau was not the only in-state addition. Corner Canyon offensive lineman Jackson West committed to Utah on Wednesday evening, giving the Utes their third commitment of the week. West chose to stay in-state, continuing a string of local recruiting successes for the program.

Adidas Deal and NCAA Calendar Changes Add to Busy Week

Off the recruiting trail, Utah announced it is set to join Adidas after signing a seven-year apparel deal with the three-stripe brand. The agreement represents a significant long-term commitment between the program and one of the sport's major equipment providers.

Meanwhile, the NCAA's FBS Oversight Committee proposed changes to the college football calendar that could reshape how programs manage the transfer portal and conduct off-campus recruiting. If approved in August, the changes would take effect January 1, 2027. Analysts have noted that Utah could emerge as a winner under the proposed new structure, with head coach Morgan Scalley's stated emphasis on building a coaching staff of strong teachers seen as well-suited to a roster environment where 30 to 40 percent of players can turn over annually.

In this game, where 30-40% of your roster is going to change every year, you want great teachers so that when those kids come in, they get them.

Taken together, the commitments from Itaaehau and West, the Adidas partnership, and the potential advantages embedded in the proposed NCAA calendar changes signal an active offseason for a Utah program working to establish itself under new leadership.
