Texas added a pair of notable recruiting wins in late June, landing 2028 quarterback Neimann Lawrence and 2027 five-star cornerback John Meredith within days of each other, with both prospects choosing the Longhorns over Texas A&M among other programs.

Lawrence, a dual-threat passer from American Heritage in Florida, announced his commitment on Thursday at The Opening Finals in Oregon. ESPN ranks him as the No. 2 dual-threat passer in the 2028 cycle, while the 247Sports Composite places him at No. 53 nationally. He chose Texas over Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

Lawrence Fits Sarkisian's System

Analysts have highlighted Lawrence's pocket presence, arm talent, decision-making, accuracy and mobility as attributes that make him a strong fit for head coach Steve Sarkisian's offense at Texas. The commitment is described as Texas securing its quarterback of the future in the 2028 cycle, continuing what one outlet characterized as a Florida quarterback pipeline for the Longhorns.

Meredith, rated the No. 1 cornerback in the 2027 class, committed to Texas earlier in June after completing official visits to both Texas and Texas A&M. The Aggies had been considered the frontrunner for much of his recruitment before the Longhorns gained ground late in the process.

Meredith acknowledged that he "loves A&M to death" but framed the decision in pragmatic terms.
