BYU secured a major recruiting win on Saturday when four-star wide receiver Blake Wong announced his commitment to the Cougars, choosing BYU over finalists Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, and Utah.

Wong is regarded as one of the top prep receivers in California and represents the biggest wide receiver addition in BYU's 2027 recruiting class. The Cougars beat out a group of high-profile programs to land his pledge, including traditional powers Ohio State and Oregon.

Official Visits Set the Stage

Wong took official visits to all five of his finalist programs over the last month, capping the process with a final official visit to Ohio State before ultimately choosing BYU. Despite the Buckeyes earning that last look, the Cougars were able to hold off the late competition.

The timing of the commitment carried added significance for BYU. The day prior, four-star athlete Bode Sparrow spurned the Cougars in favor of Oklahoma, making Wong's pledge an immediate recruiting rebound for the program.

BYU has been working to establish itself at a higher level within the Big 12, and landing a prospect of Wong's caliber over bluebloods like Ohio State and Oregon is viewed as a signal of the program's growing appeal on the national recruiting trail.
