The 2026 SEC Media Days in Tampa, Fla., brought together coaches and players from across the conference Tuesday, generating headlines on and off the field as programs addressed season expectations, roster questions, and a brewing governance storm at the top of college athletics.

South Carolina was among the programs represented, with head coach Shane Beamer joined by quarterbacks LaNorris Sellers and Nyck Harbor, along with receiver Peyton Williams. The group met with reporters as part of the conference's annual pre-season media availability.

Alabama also took its turn in the spotlight, with coverage tracking the Crimson Tide's session from downtown Tampa. Kentucky first-year head coach Will Stein addressed reporters as well, speaking at length about his connection to the program and its fanbase.

I do consider myself as psychotic as Big Blue Nation because I am one of them.

Sankey's NCAA Remarks Overshadow On-Field Talk

Beyond the football storylines, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey commanded attention after publicly acknowledging Monday that conference presidents are engaged in what he described as 'real' conversations about potentially separating from the rest of college athletics if Congress fails to act on the Protect College Sports framework. Sankey insisted the SEC was not using the threat as leverage, but the remarks drew widespread scrutiny given the conference's outsized influence on the sport.

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz also generated discussion during his session, raising eyebrows with comments about Big Ten scheduling and the College Football Playoff that analysts quickly disputed. The remarks added another layer to a media event that balanced on-field optimism with larger questions about the structural future of college athletics.
