Notre Dame climbs to No. 2 in 2027 rankings after Parks commitment, leads nation in D-line talent
Illinois defensive tackle Brayden Parks gave Notre Dame 23 commitments and vaulted the Irish into the top tier of the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Notre Dame moved to No. 2 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings for the 2027 recruiting class after Illinois defensive tackle Brayden Parks made his verbal commitment to the Irish on Thursday, giving head coach Marcus Freeman's program 23 total pledges in the cycle.
Texas A&M holds the top spot, though narrowly. The Aggies carry three more commitments than Notre Dame and post a slightly higher average commitment rank of 91.08 compared to the Irish's 91.00. Oregon sits less than a point behind Notre Dame, making the top of the 2027 board a three-program race with the cycle still open.
Seven Deep on the Defensive Line
Seven of Notre Dame's 23 commitments are defensive linemen, a group that features two five-star prospects and four four-stars. Five-stars David Folorunsho and Abraham Sesay headline the unit, joined by four-star tackles Aidan O'Neil, Jackson Vaughn, Segun Alexander, and Parks. Folorunsho is considered college-ready physically, while the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Sesay projects as a longer-term development project. O'Neil recorded 7.5 sacks last season on a team that finished 11-1. Vaughn originally carried five-star status in the 2028 class before reclassifying to 2027, a move that dropped his composite ranking without diminishing his standing as one of the cycle's top prospects.
Parks, the newest addition, is also viewed as physically ready to contribute early at the college level. Alexander and legacy prospect Richie Flanigan are more likely redshirt candidates in the near term. Defensive line coach Charlie Partridge has worked alongside Freeman in assembling the group.
The depth and star power of the position group has raised the question of whether Notre Dame holds the top defensive line class in the country for the 2027 cycle. The answer, based on current rankings, points toward yes, though recruiting evaluations carry little guarantee of on-field production once players arrive on campus.
Notre Dame has more roster room remaining than most programs near the top of the team rankings, though the majority of high-profile prospects in the 2027 cycle have already made commitments. Freeman and his staff may pursue a late-emerging prospect or two, but the current class could represent the finished product for the cycle.
