Five-star cornerback A'mir Sears committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Friday, giving Mario Cristobal's program one of the highest-rated defensive backs in the 2027 recruiting class. Sears, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back from Miami Columbus High School, had recently reclassified from the 2028 cycle earlier in the week, immediately vaulting into the upper tier of the 2027 rankings.

Sears previously ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 class. After reclassifying, ESPN slotted him as the No. 25 overall prospect and Florida's No. 5 recruit in 2027, while the 247Sports Composite places him No. 11 nationally. Rivals rates him as the nation's No. 2 cornerback and No. 10 overall prospect. He chose Miami over finalists LSU, Michigan, and Texas A&M, with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Auburn, Florida, and Syracuse among the other programs that pursued him.

Elite Two-Way Production at the Prep Level

Sears will play his junior season at Christopher Columbus High School after previously starring at West Broward, where he helped the program capture the first state championship in its history. As a sophomore, he recorded 61 tackles, 11 pass breakups, three interceptions, and a forced fumble on defense while adding 49 receptions for 942 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on offense. As a freshman, he accumulated 57 tackles, four interceptions, 25 catches, 501 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. Though he is expected to line up at cornerback in college, he has also played safety, slot receiver, outside receiver, and special teams.

Sears becomes the highest-ranked defender in Miami's 2027 class, surpassing five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant, who flipped from LSU earlier this year. He joins a class that also includes quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, and cornerback Donte Wright. The Hurricanes now hold five five-star commitments according to 247Sports. Rivals ranks the class No. 3 nationally, while ESPN had Miami eighth entering Friday. Sears is one of 14 ESPN SC Next 300 commitments in the class and one of four in-state pledges for Cristobal's 2027 group.

Miami originally offered Sears in July 2024 and maintained him as a priority target throughout his recruitment. His commitment, delivered on Friday, further solidifies the Hurricanes' standing as one of the nation's premier recruiting destinations heading into the 2026 season.
