Fields' agent pushed back on social media accounts of the separation, calling much of what circulated false or speculative.

TCU dismissed safety Jacob Fields this week, the program confirmed, with the dismissal coming just days before the Horned Frogs open the 2026 season. Fields had been projected to start at safety after transferring from Louisiana Tech, where he spent three seasons.

According to an incident report obtained by The Athletic, TCU's general manager informed a responding officer of an assault that took place in the locker room on Aug. 13. The report listed the offense as alleged aggravated assault with hands, feet, or fists. The victim's name was redacted, and the alleged assailant was not identified in the report, though a source confirmed Fields was the alleged assailant.

Agent Disputes Circulating Narrative

Fields' agent, Philip Miller, issued a statement on social media disputing much of what had been reported or shared online surrounding the dismissal.

A significant portion of what has been shared on social media regarding this situation is false or purely speculative. Jacob Fields and his immediate family have not nor will have any further comment on the situation.

Jacob misses TCU, his teammates, coaches, and the relationship he built there. He was a good student, a hard worker, and competitor who built many meaningful friendships during his time at TCU. He is grateful for the opportunity the university gave him. While disappointed, Jacob understands that given the circumstances, it was in the best interest of all parties to move forward. He respects that decision and wishes his teammates and the TCU program nothing but success.

TCU head coach Sonny Dykes had been scheduled to speak with reporters on Friday morning, but the school announced Thursday night that practice would not be open to the media. Fields, a Texas native, posted strong numbers at Louisiana Tech before joining the Horned Frogs, recording 92 tackles, three interceptions, and eight passes defended in 12 games during the 2025 season, and 54 tackles, two interceptions, and six passes defended in 13 games during the 2024 campaign.

TCU enters 2026 coming off back-to-back 9-4 seasons and an 11-7 combined record in Big 12 play over that stretch. Dykes, now in his fifth year leading the program, guided TCU to a national championship appearance in his first season with the Horned Frogs.
