Missouri RB Ahmad Hardy to miss season opener, eyes mid-September return
The Tigers' star running back has yet to practice during fall camp, leaving his status uncertain heading into the 2026 season.
Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy will not be available for the Tigers' season opener after failing to practice during fall camp, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Saturday. Hardy is targeting a return around mid-September, though no firm timetable has been established.
The news comes as Missouri wrapped up fall camp on Saturday with a scrimmage under the lights at Faurot Field. The Tigers are scheduled to open their 2026 season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 3 at Memorial Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Hardy's absence will be a notable void for a Missouri offense that has leaned heavily on its backfield in recent seasons.
Tigers Still Upbeat After Camp Finale
Despite the uncertainty at running back, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz addressed the media following the closing scrimmage alongside wide receiver Donovan Olugbode and cornerback Chris Graves Jr. Both players drew positive reviews for their development throughout camp, with Olugbode focusing on expanding his skill set as a receiver.
My contested catching, my run after the catch ability, getting more explosive after the catch.
— Donovan Olugbode, Missouri WR
Veteran transfer cornerback Graves highlighted improvements in his individual coverage and communication within the secondary. The Tigers' safety room also drew attention after transfer Kensley Louidor-Faustin, who joined from Auburn, made a splash with an interception during Saturday's scrimmage. Drinkwitz confirmed Jamal Roberts as a team captain, while Olugbode and Graves emerged as strong candidates for additional leadership roles.
With fall camp now complete, Missouri turns its focus to the regular season. Hardy's absence at running back will be a storyline to monitor as the Tigers look to navigate their opening schedule without one of their most important offensive contributors. A mid-September return, if achieved, could still allow Hardy to play a significant role once conference play begins to intensify.
