Trae Taylor throws for 311 yards as Nebraska QB commit leads Millard South past Millard North

Nebraska five-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor made an immediate impression in his first high school game on Cornhusker soil on Friday, leading Millard South to a 35-34 victory over crosstown rival Millard North in Millard, Neb. Up to 10,000 fans packed Buell Stadium to watch the much-anticipated debut, which drew added interest because four Nebraska commits were spread across both rosters.

Taylor completed passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns, adding 101 rushing yards on 24 carries to go along with one interception. The performance gave the Huskers' recruiting class an early showcase, with Taylor shouldering the load for a Millard South program that won back-to-back Class A State championships last season and finished 12-1.

Taylor Steps Into a High-Stakes Spotlight

Taylor transferred to Millard South in 2026 after a standout 2025 season at Carmel Catholic in Illinois, where he threw for 3,571 yards, 38 touchdowns, and three interceptions across 11 games. He also carried the ball 77 times for 633 yards and 12 touchdowns in that campaign. At Millard South, he stepped into the starting role vacated by Jett Thomalla, who is committed to Alabama.

Fellow Nebraska commit and wide receiver Antayvious Ellis was a key contributor in the win on Friday, hauling in three catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. On the other sideline, Husker commits safety Tory Pittman and offensive tackle Matt Erickson suited up for Millard North, giving the season opener a distinctly Nebraska flavor even before college football's own season gets underway.

The narrow one-point margin underscored how fiercely contested the Omaha-area rivalry is, with Millard North pushing the defending state champions to the wire. For Nebraska's coaching staff and fanbase, however, the evening offered an early look at what Taylor can do under pressure — and on both sides of the ball — as he continues his preparation for an eventual move to Lincoln.
