LSU Drops Another OL Recruit, Extending Rough Stretch for Kiffin's 2027 Class

The Tigers have lost out on multiple offensive linemen in the 2027 cycle, raising early questions about program-building under Lane Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin's LSU program is hitting a wall in its pursuit of offensive line talent in the 2027 recruiting class, losing out on multiple prospects at a position the new coaching staff has identified as a priority need.

The Tigers recently missed on Kal'El Johnson, continuing what sources describe as a difficult stretch for LSU along the offensive line in the 2027 cycle. The program had been actively targeting several offensive linemen, but the results have not gone in its favor.

Simien Pick Stings Too

LSU's troubles were compounded when five-star prospect Albert Simien chose Notre Dame over the Tigers. Simien is described as playing exactly the position Kiffin needs on his offense, making the miss particularly costly. Notre Dame has emphasized a specific philosophy in building its offensive line, and Simien is considered the latest example of what the program values up front.

While LSU's overall 2027 recruiting class remains in reasonable shape, the accumulation of offensive line misses represents a meaningful setback for Kiffin as he attempts to construct the roster needed to run his offensive system in Baton Rouge. A program entering a new coaching era typically relies on early recruiting wins to establish credibility and momentum, making the string of losses at a single position more notable.

Adding to the uncertainty around the program, Kiffin drew attention for going into what has been described as "ghost" mode during the recruiting cycle. The unusual approach generated discussion about his engagement and communication with prospects during a critical period for the 2027 class.

LSU has not been shut out entirely at the position, and the staff continues to pursue prospects in the 2027 class, including Wisconsin commit Yahzeen Zion, who visited the Tigers' campus. Whether those efforts can reverse the recent trend remains to be seen as the recruiting calendar progresses.
