Five-Star DL Marcus Fakatou Commits to Ohio State Over Texas and Georgia

Ohio State landed a commitment from five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou on June 29, 2026, adding one of the top defensive prospects in the 2027 recruiting class to its roster.

The Buckeyes beat out Texas and Georgia to secure Fakatou's pledge, defeating two programs widely regarded as heavyweight recruiters to earn what one report described as an 'elite' West Coast recruiting win.

Part of a Busy June for Ryan Day's Staff

The commitment capped a productive stretch for head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff, who hosted several of the nation's top recruits throughout June and had already secured multiple commitments in the days leading up to Fakatou's announcement.

Fakatou is considered one of the best defensive players in the entire 2027 recruiting class. His addition is expected to strengthen a Buckeyes class that was already drawing attention heading into the summer evaluation period.

Texas, despite missing out on Fakatou, still holds the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the country for the 2027 cycle. Georgia was also unable to land the prospect after competing for his commitment alongside the Longhorns.

With Fakatou now in the fold, analysts covering Ohio State recruiting project that additional commitments could follow in the near term as the Buckeyes build momentum heading into the back half of the 2027 recruiting cycle.
