Five-Star OT Ismael Camara Commits to Texas, Bolstering 2027 OL Class

Ismael Camara, a five-star offensive tackle from Gilmer, Texas, committed to the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, July 4, giving head coach Steve Sarkisian one of the premier interior linemen in the 2027 recruiting class.

Camara selected Texas over an offer list of close to forty programs, having narrowed his finalists to Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, SMU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M before making his decision. He is ranked as the nation's No. 4 interior offensive lineman in his class.

A Coveted In-State Target

Despite having only one season of varsity football experience, Camara — a native of France — is considered to possess significant physical upside. His commitment represents a major in-state retention for the Longhorns, who kept him away from several programs that were viewed as genuine contenders for his pledge, including Texas A&M, LSU, and Oregon.

Texas defensive backs coach Blake Gideon played a notable role in the recruitment, approaching Camara at his hotel on the final morning of an unofficial visit on June 21.

The commitment adds to what is shaping up as one of Texas's strongest offensive line classes in recent memory, arriving at an important time for offensive line coach Kyle Flood and the program's front-five development.

With Camara's pledge, the Longhorns continue to build momentum on the recruiting trail heading into the 2027 cycle, securing an elite in-state prospect whose recruitment had drawn national attention from programs across the SEC, Big Ten, and Pac-12 landscapes.
