Four-star QB Trey Wright commits to USC, becomes Trojans' first 2028 pledge
The Frisco, Texas prospect chose the Trojans over Oregon, Kentucky, Arizona, and SMU just one week after receiving his offer.
USC landed its first commitment in the class of 2028 on Saturday when four-star quarterback Trey Wright of Frisco, Texas announced his pledge to the Trojans, giving Lincoln Riley's program an early foothold at the sport's most important position.
Wright chose USC over a group of finalists that included Oregon, Kentucky, Arizona, and SMU. The decision came just one week after the Trojans extended him their first quarterback offer in the 2028 cycle, making for a remarkably quick recruitment from initial offer to commitment.
Where Wright Ranks
The 247Sports Composite ranks Wright as the No. 419 overall player in the class of 2028 and the No. 28 quarterback in that cycle. His commitment gives USC an early signal-caller target to build around as Riley continues to shape a recruiting class that won't arrive on campus for several years.
Wright is technically the Trojans' first commit in the 2028 class, though USC did receive a pledge from 2028 wide receiver Roye Oliver III back in March. Oliver later reclassified to the 2027 cycle in May, removing him from the 2028 board and leaving Wright as the program's lone commitment in that class.
The Trojans are set to open their 2026 season on August 29 at the Coliseum against San Jose State before attention turns fully to the recruiting trail heading into the fall evaluation period.
