FSU Defense Dominates Second Fall Scrimmage as Norvell Credits Defensive Line

Florida State's defense got the better of its offense in the Seminoles' second and final preseason scrimmage of fall camp on Sunday night, with head coach Mike Norvell crediting his defensive unit for generating consistent pressure, tackles for loss, and explosive plays throughout the session held in Jacksonville.

The defense definitely won the day. I thought (the defense) really did a nice job. (They were) flying around and made some explosive plays and created some TFLs. I liked tonight that there was a great balance of pressures, four-man pass rush, and guys going out there and having to win a 1-on-1.

Norvell singled out the defensive line as particularly impactful, highlighting individual performances that suggested the unit is rounding into form ahead of the regular season. The defensive line is led by coordinator Terrance Knighton and first-year position coach Nick Williams.

I thought the defensive line was really impactful. I saw the Desir twins multiple times making an impact. Jalen Anderson had a great speed sack…You felt that disruption. When you're sitting out there, it's good for one side. On the other side, you have to continue to improve.

Offense Struggles, Daniels Draws Praise

The offense had a more difficult night, with Norvell noting that early drives did not go as intended. He offered little detail on standout offensive plays or personnel, though he did reiterate his confidence in transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels, describing the signal-caller as efficient and in command of the system. Sunday's scrimmage marked a turnaround from Friday, when the offense had bounced back with a stronger showing.

Sunday's session was the last of two NCAA-permitted preseason scrimmages for the Seminoles. Florida State will take an off day Monday before returning to the practice field Tuesday. Norvell described the coming stretch as 'moving week,' a phase in which the depth chart is expected to sharpen and position battles begin to resolve. Freshman receiver Jasen Lopez continued to draw positive mention from Norvell, who said the first-year pass-catcher is putting himself in position to compete for meaningful playing time as the team works toward its regular-season opener.
